Your adventure begins as you arrive via the Katmai Water Taxi on our state-of-the-art boat, “Otis.” Once ashore, you will join a guided bus tour for the 23-mile drive to the Overlook Cabin. Along the way, you will make several stops for you to capture scenic views and look for wildlife.

Upon reaching the Overlook Cabin, you will have time to enjoy lunch while exploring historical photos and fascinating displays about the valley’s explosive history. For those seeking a closer look, you can join the tour guide for an optional hike down to the valley floor to examine the incredible ash and pumice landscape. Please be aware this hike is considered strenuous.

To make the most of your day, we recommend dressing in layers to adapt to changing weather conditions. A raincoat and comfortable walking shoes are essential for this part of your Alaskan journey.
