A Landscape Forged by Fire

Katmai’s stunning scenery is a direct result of its explosive volcanic past. The 1912 eruption of Novarupta, one of the largest of the 20th century, created the magnificent Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. This dramatic landscape of deep canyons and ash-covered valleys stands as a powerful testament to the Earth’s geologic forces. Exploring this unique terrain offers a glimpse into a world still being shaped by nature.

World-Famous Brown Bear Viewing

Katmai is synonymous with brown bears, and for good reason. The park provides a sanctuary for these incredible animals, with prime viewing opportunities at locations like Brooks Falls. Here, you can safely witness dozens of bears congregating to feast on migrating salmon. This unparalleled spectacle of nature provides a thrilling and deeply moving experience for wildlife lovers and photographers alike.
